Education is the backbone of Lubbock. Five universities and colleges are located here – Texas Tech University, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Lubbock Christian University, Wayland Baptist University, and South Plains College – providing a broad base of higher education options.  26% of Lubbock’s population holds a Bachelor’s degree or higher.

Educational facilities in Lubbock provide both academic and vocational curriculum. The Lubbock Independent School District (LISD) covers the majority of the City of Lubbock.  Private schools in Lubbock are predominately parochial in nature and offer preschool and elementary education.  Local institutions provide high school students the opportunity to become workforce and college ready by offering vocational training and college course credits.
