- Designed to spotlight area bioscience companies and emerging technologies, the Lubbock Regional BioScience Initiative is a regional link between bioscience resources and companies. Its mission is to promote regional growth and development, support established companies, and foster entrepreneurship within the bioscience industry. The Initiative also networks the companies and professionals in the West Texas Region to bioscience communities in the United States and worldwide.
- WesTech Ventures I, LP is a venture fund formed in 2003 to focus on university-based biotechnology in West Texas. To date, WesTech has formed four companies in Lubbock: Receptor Logic, Entercel, Selenium, and Auxano Biologics.
- The West Texas Coalition for Innovation and Commercialization (WTCIC) is headquartered in Lubbock and serves an 83-county region in West Texas . The WTCIC was established to identify business opportunities that are strong candidates for funding from the The State of Texas’ $200 million Emerging Technology Fund.
- The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) is home to Texas Tech University’s School of Medicine, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, West Texas Coalition for Innovation and Commercialization (WTCIC), School of Nursing, School of Allied Health Sciences, and School of Pharmacy, as well as numerous research centers and institutes.
- The Center for Biotechnology and Genomics conducts research in the fields of biochemistry, molecular biology, and genetics. The Center has forged strong ties with academic institutions, federal laboratories, and companies across the country.
- The U.S.D.A.’s Cropping Systems Research Laboratory receives $4 million in Federal R&D funds annually to study plant stress and germplasm development, cotton production, and wind erosion and water conservation. Located on the campus of Texas Tech University, the Laboratory has 60 full time employees.
