Lubbock was founded in agriculture and as the industry changes to meet the needs of the global economy, our city is on the forefront of developing technologies. According to Dr. Mike Gilbert, President of Bayer CropScience:
Beyond the overall enthusiasm of the community and the research and industrial advances supported by the University, the region’s Agricultural Committee (as part of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce) serves to sustain, create awareness, and increase education of the region’s vast agribusiness sector. Programs such as Quarterly Ag Luncheons, “Ag in the Bag,” “Ag in the Classroom,” Harvest Breakfasts, water education programs and area business impact, and the founding of the Water Conversation Council create a unified community and network of organizations committed to supporting the backbone of Lubbock.
